SPORTS MIND MAP

Hi readers!

As you all know that I like very much sports, I've made a mind map about this subject in the webpage "mind42.com". I have chosen this fantastic theme because I'm very fan of all the sports and I practise some of them. In this mind map there is an explanation of some of the most important sports and, of course, the best athletes of all time.
I hope you will like the mind map below and learn a bit of all this.

That's all for today and I hope I will see you later.

Good bye!

FOOTBALL

Hi readers!

Today I'm going to talk about my favourite sport, which is football. This sport has attracted me since I was a child, and I enjoy very much playing football with my friends and in my football team. Each year many different competitions are organized  like the Champions League, the National League at each country, the World Cup and the Eurocopa every four years... This year, for instance, the World Cup and the Eurocopa are not going to be celebrated, but the other two yes. The next Eurocopa competition will be celebrated in 2016 and the World Cup took place in 2014.

The National League started in September and the Champions League, a month later, but this one always has a shorter duration. At this time, we are in the middle of the National Competition, and at the beginning of the Champions League. But we have to be aware that the matches of this tournament are played monthly.

The National League: 20 teams take part in this competition, which are from different places of the country that is played. The first three teams will play the Champions League, and the next four teams the UEFA tournament. However, the last three teams have to descend a category.

The Champions League: The best teams of Europe take part in this tournament which begins by a group phase and 32 teams are later selected to play many matches to arrive to the final game. The winner team is considered the best team of Europe.

Finally, there are also personal awards like the Golden Ball. This award is given every year to the best player of the world. This year the three nominates are Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Manuel Neuer. The player that has won the most number of Golden Balls is the F.C.Barcelona player Lionel Messi.

And that's all for today. I hope you will like it.

See you next time!

SAY NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!

Hi readers!

On 25th November, as everybody knows, was the day to say NO to the violence against women. With this post, I want to give support to all the women of the world, because, eventually, they are suffering violence and we have to be aware that all men and women are equal. The main reasons to say NO to the violence against women are these:

- According to a survey carried out in Europe, an estimated 13 million women in the EU have experienced physical violence in the course of 12 months before the survey interviews.
- An estimated 3.7 million women in the EU have experienced sexual violence in the course of 12 months before the survey interviews.
- One in three women (33 %) has experienced physical and/or sexual violence since she was 15 years old.
- One in 20 women (5 %) has been raped since the age of 15.

With all these reasons people need to be aware of all the violence that women are suffering  in all the world and give support to them.

And that's all for today. I hope you will like it.

See you next time!

AHMED ZEWAIL (WINNER OF THE 1999 NOBEL PRIZE CHEMISTRY)

Hi readers!

Today I am going to talk about the winner of the 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. His name is Ahmed Hassan Zewail. He is an Egyptian-American scientist, known as the "father of femtochemistry". He won the 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on femtochemistry and became the first Egyptian scientist to win a Nobel Prize in a scientific field. He is the Linus Pauling Chair Professor Chemistry, Professor of Physics and the director of the Physical Biology Centre for the Ultrafast Science and Technology at the California Institute of Technology.

In 1999, Zewail became the third Egyptian national to receive the Nobel Prize, following Egyptian president Anwar Al-Sadat (1978 in Peace), Naguib Mahfouz (1988 in Literature). Mohamed ElBaradei followed him (2005 in peace).

I chose this scientist because I like very much Egypt and he became the first Egyptian to win a Nobel Prize in a scientific field. The subject of chemistry is also very interesting and the date 1999 has attracted me because it is when I was born.

Prof. Zewail has many achievements to his name. He is best known for femtochemistry, for which he got the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1999. So what is this science?

Many chemical reactions occur so fast, that we have no idea what is going on. Many of them, like that of sodium with chlorine, are over in just a million-billionth of a second. That is called a femtosecond. Knowing how these reactions proceed is important, especially when they are useful for us.

Dr. Zewail worked out that if you used laser light flashes that happen for just a few femtoseconds (million-billionth of a second), you can figure out what goes on in these reactions. You keep the reaction tube in the path of the laser and turn it on. Add the reacting chemicals in the tube. The reaction starts, and the light hits the chemicals. They take up the light, and emit light at a different wavelength (this is called spectroscopy). This light can be studied to tell us about what is going on.
It's not an easy science, but takes years and years of patient, repeated study. Over the years, Dr. Zewail has built a team of dedicated research workers, who have helped solve many puzzles.

This brilliant scientist has been awarded by countless prizes, which we can highlight: Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellow (1978-1982), Camille and Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award (1979-1985), Alexander von Humboldt Award for Senior United States Scientists (1983), National Science Foundation Award for especially creative research (1984; 1988; 1993)...

This video is about the delivery of Ahmed Zewail's Nobel Prize.

And that's all for today.

See you next time!
